BIG WEDNESDAY is
a drive time radio program on 88.3 Southern
FM, a small and diverse community radio station
in the southern suburbs of MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA.
Presented by David McMillan, the program aims to promote good
music (you know, the stuff that gets
ignored by commercial radio), and provide the
odd bit of community information. The music mix is aimed
mainly at people in their 30's 40's and 50's, who like
me have grown up listening to music and have maintained
a bit of an interest, despite the interference of life
in it's many facets; children, work, a sense that
we need to be 'responsible and mature'... whatever that may
mean.
Maybe like me you spent far too many nights in
bars drinkin beer and havin a good time, listening
to punk and new wave, and came to the sounds of new
country etc from that point of view, but you have mellowed
(well maybe a little), and still want to hear some good
sounds. Or maybe you were there from the start and still want
to hear good music.
Or, you just might enjoy listening to something
different, something new but with the odd classic
thrown in for good measure. I like to feature a fair
bit of independent music, mostly Melbourne stuff (let's
face it Melbourne is the place to be for music in Australia)
but I have very eclectic taste so you might hear anything
from singer/songwriters and roots music to alt.country,
to roots, to blues, to soul and funk, and even on occasion
some local hip hop artists.
BUT the show is not
just about music. We have interviews with people doing things
in our community. It could be an exhibition, a play, a fundraising
event - just about anything (but interesting I hope).
